Art for changing climates, cities,
& times.

Jim is a multi-media artist who constructs paintings to confront the critical changes which are occurring in our built and natural environments. The paintings aim to be grounded in a widening understanding of our changing world. He uses overlaying paints and three-dimensional details/textures to reveal Nature's infinitely complex interdependencies and Time's unrelenting impacts on our lives and places.

  • Changing Climates

The paintings aim to encourage discussion and ultimately the will to act, by conveying the consequences of carbon emissions and civilization’s other environmental degradations.

    Changing Cities

From their initial manifestations in early civilization to their current places as home to over 55% of the world’s population, cities exhibit some of the best and the worst of our nature.

  • Changing Times

Places, both natural and manmade, can impart a consciousness of the history that shaped them. We understand what it means to be caught in the grip of a time past.

Make sure to check out Jim Batchelor’s work on view in the CAA & Canal Window Gallery.

Batchelor’s mixed media paintings layer paint, photography, and texture to explore urban and polar environments shaped by climate change.

The selection of work presented here draws particularly from his paintings of the north and south pole environments, including several on aquatic life in the Arctic and Antarctic seas. His painting process connects with new research and data on critical but less familiar aspects of these environments and their habitats; the goal is to build understanding that may eventually engender positive change.
