About the Artist
Jim, shown here with his wife Clara during a recent trip to Roosevelt Island, began his practice as an architect at about the same time that major construction began in this long-forlorn, recently renamed and now much rebuilt island in the East River. Interesting that, after 50 years, this created community seems to have, in a gritty but solid way, some of the qualities of place that were the point of those 50-year-old dreams.
An artist (and architect) whose mixed media paintings explore changes in our communities and surroundings, Jim constructs paintings to confront the critical changes which are occurring in our built and natural environments. The paintings aim to be grounded in a widening understanding of our changing world. He uses overlaying paints and three-dimensional details/textures to reveal Nature's infinitely complex interdependencies and Time's unrelenting impacts on our lives and places. His work has been selected for multiple Cambridge Art Association shows including the 2024 Members' Prize Show and 2024 National Prize Show, and exhibited at the Brookline Public Library.
